The company had developed a proprietary encryption technology that protected publisher titles from unpaid duplication. Peanutpress had nearly fifty publishing partners, including Random House, Time Warner, Simon & Schuster and St. Martin's Press. Peanutpress.com was initially acquired by NetLibrary in February 2000 and was later sold to Palm, Inc. (NASDAQ: PALM) in March 2001.
