BOARD ADVISOR | Tania Amochaev
Ms. Amochaev lives in Sonoma County, California, and pursues a
variety of business and personal interests. She retired from full
time executive management in 1997, and has served on the boards of
NASD listed companies QRS Corporation, Symantec Corporation, Walker
Interactive; the boards of privately held ems, NetTest and Prescient.
She actively pursues travel, outdoor activities, photography, and
writing.
Amochaev joined QRS Corporation (NASDAQ - QRSI) as its President in
1992 and served as CEO from 1993 to 1997. As President and CEO, she
successfully led the Company through a financial restructuring and its
initial public offering in August of 1993. From near startup stage in
1992, QRS enjoyed rapid, profitable growth to become the leading
provider of product catalog services to the retail industry.
Amochaev came to QRS from Natural Language, Inc.(NLI), where she
served as CEO and Chairman from 1988 to 1992. She took NLI from start
up stage through commercial product release, raised over $10 million
in venture capital financing, and achieved technical and marketing
leadership in the emerging market for natural language retrieval of
information in relational databases. Microsoft has since acquired the
company.
From 1984 through 1987, Amochaev was CEO and Chairman at Comserv,
Inc., a NASDAQ traded manufacturing software company. During her
tenure she successfully returned the troubled $25 million company to
profitability and a market leadership position. The company was sold
to Management Science America, Inc. She joined that company after
orchestrating the merger, and served as Vice President from 1987 to
1988.
Prior to Comserv, from 1970 to 1984, Amochaev worked at Control Data
Corporation, in a variety of management positions, lastly as
International Vice President of Scientific Information Services. This
organization included computer services and consulting businesses in
over 20 countries, with revenues in excess of $100 million. Prior to
that, she was General Manager of Professional Services, responsible
for a 1000 person worldwide consulting organization. She began her
career as a Programmer Analyst at Control Data in 1970.
Amochaev holds a B.A. in Mathematics from U.C. Berkeley (1970), and an
M.S. in Management from the Stanford Graduate School of Business
(1977). She is the recipient of an Honorary Doctorate from the
College of St. Catherine in Minnesota. She has served on the Executive
Board of the College of Letters and Sciences at the University of
California at Berkeley, the advisory board at the Stanford Graduate
School of Business, and the Board of Trustees at the College of
St. Catherine.
